CURRENT POSITIONS

Laboratory Scientists - Cellular/Molecular Biology / Organic Chemistry

The scientists will be required to use significant scientific skills and knowledge to discover, develop and optimize new ideas, techniques and procedures in their area of expertise. The candidate will work independently at the bench to perform most assignments applicable to his/her expertise - drug discovery, drug synthesis, cell based drug screening and development research. The candidate will receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed work plans.
A successful candidate will have a strong technical background and hold an advanced degree in one or more of the following:  organic chemistry, biochemistry, cellular biology, or bio-engineering. The ideal individual will have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: sugar chemistry, protein labeling, antibody production and experience in working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. The candidate will exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position requires that the Scientist initiates, directs and executes scientific research and/or development strategies for the company through the research staff or individual studies with the following additions:

- Apply scientific principles and concepts to the development of future products
- Plan and execute laboratory research
- Maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories
- Make contributions to scientific literature and conferences
- Participate in the development of patent applications
- Interface with interdisciplinary departments
- Contribute to the development of company concepts and principles
- Manage and lead defined workgroup scientists within the department

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The candidate must hold an advanced degree with at least 2 years of industry experience. All degrees must be in the area that pertains to the scientific duties and responsibilities of the position.

For these positions the candidate must be experienced with theory, equipment and the procedures of the particular work group he/she is applying for. This may include the ability to design and execute multistep experiments, isolate and characterize products from complex mixtures, perform analytical techniques such as HPLC, NMR and MS analyses. Experience in carbohydrate synthesis will be a plus.
