Living in the Area

Built on an isthmus between two lakes, Madison is Wisconsin’s capital as well as home to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a world-class research university. A city of just over 235,000 people, Madison’s natural beauty offers a small-town feel, while its diverse population and educational and cultural opportunities rival those of much larger cities. Madison was selected as “One of the Ten Most Livable Cities in the United States” by the 2007 Places Rated Almanac and consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in the country. The city has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.

For families, Madison is a city with one of the only free zoos in the country and a newly re-vamped children's museum. Madison is also known as the “Bike Capital of the Midwest,” with one of the most extensive bike trail systems in the country and its many parks and five area lakes offer year-round recreation.
